Richar Boyd Barrett - Dun Laoghaire Candidate
Richard BOYD BARRETT - Your Candidate What Richard stands for locally Home People Before Profit Alliance - A Real Alternative
Why we need an alternative
The last ten years has seen the greatest economic boom in this country's history.
Developers, speculators and a wealthy elite have done well...
but what have the rest of us got?
Crisis in our Health Service
" 300 patients, on average, on hospital trolleys every day last winter
" 15,000 adults on hospital waiting lists
" 3,000 children on waiting lists for mental health services
" Government plans to hand-over publicly owned Hospital land to private developers.
" Ireland spends one of the lowest proportions of national wealth on the public health service of any European country.
Overcrowded and under funded Schools
" Over 100,000 primary school children in classes of 30 or more
" School children and their families forced to collect tokens to pay for school computers.
Housing Crisis
" 43,684 households on housing waiting lists with almost 4000 people on the housing list in Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown alone.
" Mortgage debt in Ireland increasing at almost three times the EU average with Irish people now owing twice as much on their mortgages as their European counterparts.

Rip-Off Stealth Taxes
" Unfair Bin taxes that hurt the less well-off and plans to privatise essential public services
" ESB prices increased by 50 percent in the last five years.
" Gas prices increased by 40 per cent in the last year alone and set to increase further this year.
No Public Amenities and Community facilities
" Across the Country public land and open space is being handed over to private developers.
" In Dun Laoghaire constituency, plans to hand over Carlisle Pier, Blackrock Baths and the Shanganagh Castle lands to private developers.
" In recent weeks, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Co Council evicted the local community playgroup in Blackrock from its premises.
Traffic gridlock and global warming
" Traffic congestion has reached gridlock and Ireland's CO2 emissions have risen dramatically.
" Ireland gives the lowest level of subsidy to public transport of any European country and is failing to invest seriously in developing sustainable energy.
