		Richard is a long-standing activist in Dun Laoghaire area. He led the Save Our Seafront (SOS) Campaign that stopped an 8-storey apartment block from being built on the Baths site. He continues to campaign for the restoration of the baths as a public swimming amenity. He led the campaign that stopped St Michael’s Hospital from being taken over by developers. He was a founding member of the Anti -Bin Tax Campaign and is opposed to the introduction of water charges. Most recently he has been active fighting against cuts in local bus services, for more social housing, youth and community amenities, and for the introduction of public works programmes to provide employment locally. Richard is also the chairperson of the Irish Anti War Movement and has campaigned against the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine and the use of Shannon Airport by the US military.
